The presence of women in soil science began many years ago. This article describes activities of women over the four decades from 1940 to 1980. This study reviews and describes the presence of women in soil science by decade and institution (INTA, Universities, other). Until the 1960s, female participation in our science was sporadic and specific. From that moment on, there was an increasing participation with 2 and 14 active women in the discipline in the 1940s and 1950s, and 34 and 74 women in 1969 and 1970, respectively. Not only the number of women in soil science raised but also their geographical distribution and topics of interest, as well as the occupation of management positions in the Asociación Argentina de la Ciencia del Suelo (AACS) and other organizations and companies.
